The Vineyards at Porter Ranch is a 220,000-square-foot experiential retail center in Los Angeles inspired by California’s wine country. OTL engineered and built two signature water features in partnership with general contractor Moorefield Construction, giving guests central gathering places throughout the center. One fountain pays homage to the National September 11 Memorial in New York, reimagined at a fitting scale.

CHALLENGE
The client envisioned a cascading fountain honoring the National September 11 Memorial’s water effect at a scale fitting a suburban center. Recreating that effect meant designing a 44-foot stainless-steel weir detailed enough to feel recognizable despite the size difference. The weir also needed to be perfectly level and free of warpage for smooth, continuous flow.
OTL’S
SOLUTION
OTL built a custom mock-up of the weir, testing it with the client before fabrication. Adjustable supports installed beneath the weir achieved the perfectly level surface the design required. For the second fountain, OTL used infinity weirs and steel receivers to create five spouts flowing into a static basin without splashing.
The two features now give the center both a stirring and a calming presence. By echoing the 9/11 Memorial, the fountains let visitors connect with a national moment of significance locally.
