The Veranda is CenterCal Properties’ 375,000-square-foot retail, dining and entertainment destination in Concord, California. At its center sits the first show fountain of its kind in Silicon Valley, blending lighting and water choreographed to music. OTL designed and built the fountain to serve as the development’s central gathering point.

CHALLENGE
OTL had to complete the project on an unusually tight timeframe with no room for delays. The fountain also needed flexibility to keep pace with retail’s evolving expectations, changing its lighting and water effects over time. Choreographing a show capable of matching any song, rather than one fixed sequence, added technical complexity.
OTL’S
SOLUTION
OTL built the fountain around 20 arching jets that shift independently from zero to 30 feet, each paired with RGB lights capable of over two million colors. That flexibility lets programmers choreograph shows to virtually any song, including the Queen classic Bohemian Rhapsody, chosen through a social media contest. Throughout construction, OTL superintendents surveyed the site at every stage to ensure the finished fountain matched its design intent.
The Veranda’s fountain now anchors the destination as its focal point, drawing visitors from across Silicon Valley. Its ever-changing shows keep the retail experience fresh, supporting Concord’s effort to revitalize the Diamond District.
