At Barona Resort & Casino, OTL and our partners were tasked with bringing a living lagoon into the resort’s landscape. Alive with water plants and fish, this lagoon needed to feel as natural as the oak-studded hills surrounding it.
Now, guests wander past a spectacular water wheel and rockwork that recall simpler days, long before high-tech distraction.
PROJECT
CHALLENGE
Sustaining live plants and fish in a resort lagoon meant ruling out the chemical treatments most water features rely on. Lifescapes International and OTL needed a system that could keep water clear and healthy on its own, the way nature does.
Doing so within an active resort construction schedule, alongside rockwork and a signature water wheel, added another layer of complexity.
OTL’S
SOLUTION
OTL engineered a biological mechanical system that filters and balances the lagoon naturally, giving water plants and fish a thriving, chemical-free habitat.
Natural rockwork frames the water’s edge, while a spectacular water wheel turns quietly nearby, evoking a bygone era.
Together, these elements were built to sustain themselves much like nature does, requiring minimal intervention to keep the lagoon healthy and beautiful.
PROJECT
IMPACT
That lagoon now anchors a peaceful corner of Barona Resort & Casino, its clear water and rockwork offering guests a quiet escape from the casino floor. The water wheel and surrounding rockwork continue to charm visitors, a reminder that luxury and nature can share the same address.
