PROJECT OVERVIEW
- Design
- Build
- Show Fountain
- Interactive Deck
University Place is a 112-acre mixed-use destination in Orem, Utah, with retail, offices, apartments and a theater. As part of a $500 million renovation, owner Woodbury Corporation wanted the first show fountain south of Salt Lake City, an interactive deck and a floating granite globe for its indoor play area. OTL designed and built these features to elevate University Place into a true lifestyle destination.
PROJECT
CHALLENGE
Woodbury Corporation wanted the new fountain and deck to attract high-tech tenants without disrupting the center’s daily operations during construction. The interactive deck also required close coordination with the Health Department to ensure its design met code before permitting.
OTL’S
SOLUTION
OTL worked with its partners to design the fountains without interrupting the public during construction. The team converted an existing basement into electrical and mechanical rooms, giving managers remote control of the fountain by tablet. For the interactive deck, OTL designed and fabricated the structure, working with the Health Department to gain agreement before construction began.
PROJECT
IMPACT
University Place’s fountains now serve as a high-tech, modern gathering place for tenants, residents and guests throughout the property. The project earned University Place an award from the Congress for New Urbanism at the 2016 Utah Awards for Excellence.
