The Palmer Smurfit Golf Course at The K Club Golf Hotel Resort
Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland
Smurfit’s unique inland links design features dune-type mounding, clever bunkering, challenging water features and sloping greens. Our artisans used 75,000 square feet of artificial rockwork to create streams, ponds, waterfalls and lakes that attract waterfowl and golfers to this beautiful setting.
Our artisans created a dramatic wetland feature at the signature 7th hole, which features a vast man-made rock called the Swallow Quarry. Once the fairway was lowered by about 60 feet, we constructed a large rock-faced water feature along the full length of the 606-yard hole. This stadium course, designed by The Arnold Palmer Design Company, is considered to be among the Europe’s finest championship courses. The Smurfit course is a sharp contrast to its sister course, the tree-lined Palmer Ryder Cup Course, also at the K Club.
