Trinity Mills Station is a 25-acre transit-oriented development in Carrollton, Texas, with offices, apartments, retail and a hotel. The City of Carrollton wanted a crown jewel water feature paying homage to the city’s history as a three-railroad intersection. OTL and its partners designed a show fountain inspired by that heritage.

CHALLENGE
The fountain needed to be a distinctive, photo-worthy attraction for tenants, residents and visitors. OTL’s greatest challenge was proving out a never-before-built design centered on 20-foot semaphore poles shooting water in wave-like motions. Working with delicate dichroic glass and cast stainless steel required OTL’s artisans to master unfamiliar materials.

SOLUTION
To validate the concept, OTL built a working prototype at its Anaheim test facility before installing it in the field. The team repurposed utility poles for the fountain’s mechanical and electrical systems, using servo motors driven by DMX data. RGB lighting through each semaphore, paired with dichroic glass and fog, recreates the glow of a steam engine.
Trinity Mills Station’s show fountain now stands as a one-of-a-kind tribute to Carrollton’s railroad past. Its rainbow of colors, mood-setting fog and oscillating waves are set to enchant visitors to the development for decades to come.
