OTL’s Role:
Private Estate
LOCATION
La Jolla, California
PROJECT OVERVIEW
- Design
- Build
- Custom Rockwork
- Pool & Water Feature
The owner of this private estate in La Jolla, California hired OTL’s design-build team to add a new pool and rockwork feature to its landscape. The scope also included an unusual request: a heated, air-conditioned cave built into the rockwork for the family’s pet Vietnamese potbelly pig. OTL designed and built both features to complement the estate’s landscape design.
PROJECT
CHALLENGE
The owners wanted the finished pool and rockwork to precisely match the vision established by their design team, which required unusual coordination and precision. Achieving that level of accuracy across a large-scale rockwork installation is difficult to manage from drawings alone. OTL needed a way to verify the design’s look and proportions before committing to full-scale construction.
OTL’S
SOLUTION
OTL crafted a 15-foot by 6-foot scale model of the pool and rockwork before construction began. Referring back to the model throughout the build let artisans confirm they were capturing the intent of both the design team and the homeowners. Using that same rockwork, OTL also built the custom cave to house the family’s potbelly pig.
PROJECT
IMPACT
The finished pool and rockwork now provide the family with an inviting retreat that showcases the beauty of their La Jolla home. The custom pig cave adds a playful, personal touch to the estate’s grounds.
