OTL Opens Office in Dallas; Hires Construction Veteran John S. Cunningham to Lead Region
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. – Oct. 10, 2017 – Specialty contractor Outside the Lines (OTL), an industry leader in the design and construction of water features, rockwork and themed environments, has opened an office in Dallas, Texas and has tapped 20-year construction veteran John S. Cunningham to be the company’s regional manager.
Cunningham, 51, was most recently a branch manager for BrightView (formerly ValleyCrest Companies) where he directed operations for the company’s $25 million region that included North Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. During his 14-year tenure at BrightView, Cunningham also performed the planning, scheduling, logistics and provided executive leadership for high-priority projects including the Devon Energy World Headquarters in Oklahoma City, Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, Kimbell Art Museum and Facebook Data Center in Fort Worth, and the Toyota North American Headquarters in Plano, Texas.
According to OTL founders, the Dallas expansion and hiring of Cunningham allow OTL to better serve existing clients in Texas and other Central U.S. markets, while providing the structure, presence and market knowledge to win additional projects in this active construction market. OTL is currently working on fountains for Plano’s expansive Legacy West Urban Village and has recently completed interactive fountains for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.
“
Hiring a professional with the operations depth and experience of Cunningham shows our commitment to the success of projects in the region and to providing our clients the attention and customer service they deserve.

J. Wickham Zimmerman
OTL CEO
“Texas and the Central United States are important geographic markets for OTL, ” says OTL CEO J. Wickham Zimmerman. “Hiring a professional with the operations depth and experience of Cunningham shows our commitment to the success of projects in the region and to providing our clients the attention and customer service they deserve.”
“Clients hire us the first time because they are blown away by our artistry and expertise,” says OTL President Hugh F. Hughes. “But they contract us for the second and third projects because of the positive experience they had working with our team. Cunningham’s experience with continuous improvement, Lean Construction and his documented ability to deliver profitable projects to ‘highly satisfied customers’ are exactly the skill-sets we were looking for to be the face of OTL in this region.”
Cunningham holds a Bachelor of Engineering in civil engineering from McGill University in Montreal and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He is a veteran of the US Army where he honed his leadership skills and learned the value of teambuilding, which he called on while developing and implementing a Continuous Improvement program across 15 branch office locations.
Cunningham volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and is a regional liaison / volunteer for On Target for Veterans (OT4V).
