My Favorite Project: The Towers at Williams Square

Posted in Insights -

Our Vice President of Business Development Barry Caylor chose the renovation of the fountain at The Towers at Williams Square in Irving, Texas as his favorite project since joining OTL in 2020. The fountain is iconic, featuring nine larger-than-life bronze mustangs that appear to be galloping through water.

Originally constructed in 1983, the water feature surrounded by office buildings has been a unique piece of placemaking for the City of Irving for decades. Our team was called in more than 30 years later to assist in its refurbishing.

If you know Barry, his choice of this project isn’t surprising—Barry’s role at the company is all about building relationships with our clients, and The Towers at Williams Square fountain has a history of great relationships.

Barry says, “This is a project that so many people know about and talk about, and its installation was a real success for OTL. Aside from the beauty of those bronze mustang sculptures, the fact that three of the people who had worked on the original fountain built in 1983 – Chuck McDaniel at SWA Group; Dan Ricciardi, who developed the first water feature’s hoof nozzle; and Robert Glen, the Kenyan artist who had created the mustang sculptures – also worked on the renovation all those years later was wonderful. We were keeping the legacy of an iconic water feature in play.”

The fountain’s mustangs are the largest equestrian sculptures in existence and voted the best public sculptures in the world. In addition, original designer Ricciardi fabricated adjustable new nozzles that were shaped at the discharge point to simulate the splash effect from the mustangs’ gallop, achieving a result just as believable and inspiring as the original fountain.

Steeped in history, the renovated water feature provides an attractive space for the office towers’ tenants, residents of Irving, and visitors to gather all year round. It is a prime example of an office amenity that builds community and adds significant value to the buildings surrounding it.
