Getting to Know OTL’s Working Superintendent Mike Platt
Posted in Insights -
Beginning in 2020, in our newsletter and throughout our social media platforms, we began spotlighting team members who are key to the success of our company.
While OTL is known throughout the USA and internationally for designing and building magnificent water features, rockwork and themed environments, our company’s true foundation is our people. OTL simply would not be the same without our incredibly talented, dedicated, and caring team.
This month’s Team Spotlight is devoted to our Working Superintendent, Mike Platt. Mike’s first project with OTL was in 2010, and he has been an indispensable member of our team ever since. In his role with the firm, Mike is responsible for overseeing every phase of a project, from initial planning to completion. This includes working with liner rockwork (natural and positive-carved artificial rock), plumbing, fountain equipment installation, and heavy equipment operation.
Mike shared with us his greatest accomplishments at the company, his aspirations for the future, and a few fun facts about himself.
Favorite project since joining OTL: That’s a hard question. City Creek Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, was a great project and my first with OTL, so it will always have a piece of my heart. I also worked on the Detroit Zoo Polk Penguin Conservation Center, which has won best zoo exhibit three years in a row. Renaissance at Colony Park in Ridgeland, Mississippi, was the first fountain I worked on by myself with laborers only, so it really stands out for me.
Greatest accomplishment at the company: My greatest accomplishment has been learning how to lay out and install all the equipment that goes into a complex show fountain, including robotic nozzles, air cannons, control panels, underwater DMX control wiring, electrical for audio systems, WiFi, and high-pressure fog. There’s a lot of stuff in these fountains that people don’t see when they’re completed.
Fun fact about Mike: I love playing darts and cooking/grilling. I got lucky and won first place in OTL’s annual chili cookoff and first place in the dessert category with my famous banana pudding! I also enjoy traveling—I travel to each jobsite throughout the country with my family, which includes my beautiful wife, two dogs, and bird!
Aspirations for the future: I’m looking forward to doing the best I can to teach new team members everything that will help OTL keep growing in the future.
Stay tuned for Team Spotlights featuring more of OTL’s outstanding team members.
