Team Spotlight: Getting to Know OTL’s Director of Creative Design, Chris Roy
Posted in Insights -
For the past several months, in our newsletter and throughout our social media platforms, we have been spotlighting team members who contribute to the success of our company.
While OTL is known throughout the USA and internationally for designing and building magnificent water features, rockwork and themed environments, our company’s true foundation is our people. OTL simply would not be the same without our truly talented, dedicated, and caring team.
This month’s Team Spotlight is devoted to Chris Roy, our Director of Creative Design. Chris has been with the company since 2017, working with our design team on creative concepts for our projects. An invaluable member of the OTL team, Chris brings his extensive business expertise and enormous artistic talent to the table.
Here are Chris’ thoughts on the company and his role:
Favorite project: “The Loop at Texas Live! This magnificent show fountain incorporates fire nozzles with flames that float on top of jets of water, as well as a special water cannon effect that we developed for the project. This was a great design/build project for OTL and for the project’s owners, as our design solution saved them money compared to an alternative concept that they were considering, which had been created by a fountain engineering consultant. Our lower-cost solution actually offered a better final product with a stronger concept and more exciting features.”
Greatest accomplishment at OTL: “My greatest accomplishment at the company has been increasing OTL’s ability to provide complete design services from concept through commissioning. We can meet with an owner or architect, learn about their project and desires, and come back with a variety of very creative concepts that will set their project apart from other properties. We are working hard to advance the state of the art and create new concepts that haven’t been seen before.”
Fun fact about Chris: “I spend a lot of time hiking, Jeeping, camping, and exploring the mountains and deserts. My enjoyment of nature ties into my work at OTL very well, as I’m constantly observing and taking pictures of natural rock formations, streams, waterfalls, and various environments, all of which serve as inspiration for our artificial rockwork and naturalistic stream projects. I’m always gathering interesting rocks on my journeys (not in national parks, though!) that I can bring back as great examples of color and texture – although sometimes I question my sanity when I’m carrying 30 lbs. of rocks over a 10-mile mountain hike!
Aspirations for the future: “I’m looking forward to accomplishing so much! I’m happy to be passing my knowledge and experience along to our design team, and growing that aspect of the business. We have some new show fountain concepts that we’re really looking forward building, as they’re unlike anything that’s been built before and are really a great departure from today’s show fountains.”
