Providing a realistic environment that keeps the lowland gorillas contained but allows visitors to view their behavior became a top priority while we constructed a massive monolith and mud bank for this exhibit. We developed a full understanding of their habitat in the wild, sense of territoriality, foraging habits and physical capabilities while tackling this project. Then, we took these factors into account while building the habitat to ensure the survival of this critically endangered animal.
